Henna, or mehndi, is one of the oldest forms of body art, with roots stretching back over 5,000 years across South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Historically, henna was used for its cooling properties in hot climates, as well as for adornment during weddings, festivals, and religious celebrations. Its rich red-brown color symbolized joy, beauty, and blessings.
In bridal traditions, the depth of a bride's henna stain was said to reflect the love in her marriage, and hidden initials of the groom became a playful custom. These rituals continue in modern weddings today.
While techniques and styles have evolved, the spirit of henna remains the same — a celebration of culture, artistry, and life's most meaningful moments. We're proud to carry this tradition forward across the Bay Area.
